Artaica, contemporary tradition

Using traditional materials, mainly from the Mediterranean area, Artaica offers in this project a sound without borders, without any unnecessary labelling and catalogue restrictions. Artaica takes the listener from simple song melodies with minimal arrangements, but with an overwhelming strength, to those of indescribable beauty, combining Oriental scales and rhythms with European sounds, to produce a music which is both disturbing and attractive. Artaica is able to make the legacy of traditional music grow, whilst developing the music in a subtle way, without dramatic changes and style, with an approach of respect and devotion to the beauty of the subject.

Mara Aranda has performed all over the world representing traditional Sephardic music as well as her own composition projects.
She creates a singing style looking for a balance between the force and dramatic quality of traditional music and the poetics of a more refined style. The voice lets space to the instrumental performance, brightly played by Sergi Rajadell (piano), Agustí Vidal (clarinet and violin) and Xavi Folch, bass player and director of the project, who knows how to take the initial seed of traditional music to create an unprecedented modern sound.

These two worlds, traditional and contemporary, come together to create a harmonic and classy atmosphere with a unique sound, both ancient and modern, a homogeneous and global concept, a high quality work
